Assistant Engineer - Signalling (Equipment Engineering Services)
Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. Join us in one of our Central Engineering, Transport System Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering teams and, as well as maintaining legacy assets, you’ll deliver new systems and solutions. There’s more to it than tubes, roads, buildings and bridges. This is about connecting communities and creating opportunities, so we’re ready for the 21st century and beyond.
Day-to-day, you will provide technical analysis and diagnostics within your field of expertise, as well as assisting with the production of designs, drawings, calculations and ongoing continuous improvement of assets to ensure a reliable and safe experience for customers.
Road and Rail Traffic Control Systems Equipment Engineering Services (R&RTCS-EES) are responsible for innovative custom electronics and second line maintenance support for TfL (including London Underground). We develop electronics hardware and software in our in-house lab and take responsibility right through from design to installation. We also support unique equipment ranging from over 40 years old rolling stock and signals equipment to modern state-of-the-art systems. As the technician in charge of our lab you will be comfortable in a lab environment, supporting designs from senior engineers. You will be responsible for building prototypes, test circuitry and test rigs, as well as making sure that the lab is well stocked and organised. You will be confident with basic electronics tools (multimeters, power supplies, soldering irons) as well as having some familiarity with test equipment such as signal generators and oscilloscopes. You will have exceptional workmanship skills and be confident building PCBs (through-hole and surface mount), connectors, enclosures and wiring.
It’s important you bring a passion for the TfL Vision and strategy too. That’s because, wherever you join us, you’ll explore work of unparalleled scale, scope and variety across a unique range of projects, as you build your career and expertise. So come and bring on tomorrow, as an Engineer at TfL.
Note: You must be medically fit and willing to support site and depot work (including nights and weekends). A driving license and willingness to drive company vehicles is desirable. Please note that in addition to interview there will be a practical assessment of electronics skills. The R&RTCS-EES lab is in Acton Town, West London.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability status.
Please apply using your most recent CV and Cover Letter. We encourage you to apply for the position that is most relevant to your existing skills, knowledge and experience as shortlisting is carried out on the basis of how well you meet the criteria for the role.
