London Underground is one of the world’s most famous metro systems and is responsible for more than 3.5 million passenger journeys a day. It has 11 lines covering 402km and serving 270 stations. During peak hours, more than 500 trains are in operation.
We have exciting opportunities for Electrical Mechanical Fitters to work either within the Railway Engineering Workshop (REW) or Train Modifications Unit (TMU) at Acton Works to repair/maintain rolling stock or train/track equipment on a repair or pre-programme basis.
Diagnose faults on safety critical signalling and rolling stock products, maintain, repair and test and pass as fit for purpose
Read, understand and comply with engineering drawings, working instructions, templates, patterns and/or sketches
Install or replace components or in accordance with the relevant specification on safety critical signalling products or electro-mechanical equipment
Use mechanical handling equipment, as may be required
Test and prove wired equipment for accuracy and safety, boxes and sign off equipment as fit for purpose
Coach other employees in job and product requirements
Use electrical or mechanical measuring instruments to assess component condition and record results
Install and terminate electrical wiring in accordance with wiring drawings and work instructions.
Ensure that all activities and changes to equipment or process comply with all relevant safety and legal requirements.
Ensure that the planning of testing and trial activities includes the identification of appropriate risks and standards.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
All of the below are essential unless stated desirable
Served a relevant craft apprenticeship/ NVQ Level 3, B Tech Level 3 or equivalent, and be able to demonstrate appropriate practical skills and knowledge of the product range
Physically fit and reach London Underground’s medical standards of fitness as appropriate to the job
Knowledge and use of fine tip soldering irons
Knowledge of wiring standards
Knowledge of mechanical assembly practices and standards

This is a safety critical role so you will need to get clearance from our Occupational Health team before you start.
There are multiple vacancies for this position. The standard working week will be 35 hours on a day shift.
