Engineer (Hazardous Materials)
Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. Join us in one of our Central Engineering, Transport System Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering teams and, as well as maintaining legacy assets, you’ll deliver new systems and solutions. There’s more to it than Tubes, roads, buildings and bridges. This is about connecting communities and creating opportunities, so we’re ready for the 21st century and beyond.
A true technical expert in your field, you will develop and implement complex engineering solutions safely, and within cost limitations. Day-to-day, you will provide technical guidance and advice in your position as a trusted source of engineering expertise for everyone, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.
As a Hazardous Materials Engineer you will have significant experience in the management of asbestos and other hazardous materials, supported by relevant qualifications including BOHS P405 & P402 proficiency modules. You will be responsible for developing and implementing hazardous materials engineering solutions safely and efficiently.
You will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of Legislation, TfL Standards and procedures pertinent to asbestos and hazardous materials management, be familiar with TfL infrastructure and will be able to use your experience and expertise to provide advice and guidance to less experienced members of the team and to various groups across TfL. You will also be able to apply environmental considerations and industry best practice.
Day-to-day, your role will involve carrying out asbestos risk assessments, re-inspections, preparation of detailed specifications for surveys, remediation and removal works, review of method statements, management of framework suppliers to deliver works on site and maintain & update records.
The successful applicant will be a real team player, work well within a time constrained environment, able to problem solve, make prompt decisions whilst considering safety the priority and willing to undertake night shifts when required. Accompanying this you will bring on board skills in commercial awareness, as well as contract, project and stakeholder management.
It’s also equally important you bring a passion for the TfL Vision and strategy too. That’s because, wherever you join us, you’ll explore work of unparalleled scale, scope and variety across a unique range of projects, as you build your career and expertise. So come and bring on tomorrow, as an Engineer at TfL.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability status.
Please apply using your most recent CV and Cover Letter. We encourage you to apply for the position that is most relevant to your existing skills, knowledge and experience as shortlisting is carried out on the basis of how well you meet the criteria for the role.

A minimum of 5 working days notice will be provided however, please note, due to critical delivery timeframes we may not be able to offer interview slots outside of this period.
