Highways Apprentice - Level 2 Intermediate
This is an entry level Apprenticeship programme. No work experience is required; however, you will need at least 2 GCSE grades in Maths and English

You will be working towards and gain SVQ Level 2 in Highway Maintenance
Location: Sheffield, Olive Grove Depot, S2 3GE
Hours per week: 37.5
Typical hours: Monday- Friday 08:00 – 16:00
Duration of program: 2 years
What will you be doing?
The Sheffield Streets Ahead Project is designed to upgrade and maintain the entire infrastructure including the city’s roads, pavements, street lighting, bridges and street scene. We are looking for someone to complete the basic highways course, you will work with Planning teams, Supervisors and on site teams, you won't be completing operational task but monitoring these.
Take responsibility for a geographical area of the city
Support the organisation efficient delivery, day-to-day monitoring, of all operational maintenance and lifecycle activities across the highway network on the Streets Ahead PFI contract in Sheffield.
Working within the community to deliver strategic improvements in key areas, communicate with residents and businesses on planned works to minimise local disruption.
Carry out inspections of reported defects to ensure effective first time fix, improved utilisation of resources and minimise customer contact.
What are we looking for?
One of the best things about an Apprenticeship with Amey is that you do not need to have previous experience in working on our busy highways. However, you should be able to demonstrate an interest in Highways Maintenance, and a willingness to develop yourself within the area.
As this is an operational role we are looking for people who are willing to get hands on and stuck in! You should be comfortable working outside come wind, rain or shine! As you will be working on the Highways it is essential that you have a good understanding of Health & Safety and can be confident in that environment.
A minimum of X2 GCSE’s grade C or higher in Maths and English (or equivalent)
A full UK Driving licence
Commitment to studying towards a nationally recognised qualification
Excellent teamwork skills
A willingness to learn and keen to progress
Ability to juggle multiple tasks
