Highways Maintenance Apprentice - Level 2 Intermediate
This is an entry level Apprenticeship programme. No work experience is required, however you will need at least 2 GCSE grades in Maths and English
By joining our Apprentice scheme, you will embark on a journey that provides you with excellent career development opportunities within Highways maintenance. You will be studying towards your Level 2 qualification while working alongside our experienced team of Highways professionals delivering a full range of services to Kent County Council Highways from one of our five operational depots. (Sandwich, Aylesford, Ashford, Faversham, and Tonbridge.
You will be working towards and gain NVQ Level 2 Construction Operations and Civil Engineering Services - Highways Maintenance

What makes this role unique?
As Amey's Highways Apprentice you will join us for the long term! We offer a lot of support and mentoring throughout your Apprenticeship programme ensuring that you are being stretched and developed both in your studies and at work. You will be given a variety of opportunities working on our key Highways contracts with Kent County Council from meeting with the client and understanding expectations to being onsite and operational with a team of qualified professionals. Alongside this you will have the support of other Apprentices, and if eligible establish yourself in a team working towards your Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. Once you have completed your Apprenticeship Programme you are guaranteed a permanent position with us!
What will this role involve?
As part of a two or three-person team you will undertake a wide range of reactive maintenance tasks on both footways and the live carriageway.
These will include the following.
Breaking out and the replacement of carriageway and footway surfacing
Undertaking minor drainage works
Ironwork and street furniture replacement.
Driving vehicles and plant
Attending emergency incidents
What are we looking for?
One of the best things about an Apprenticeship with Amey is that you do not need to have previous experience in working on our busy highways. However, you should be able to demonstrate an interest in Highways Maintenance, and a willingness to develop yourself within the area.
As this is an operational role we are looking for people who are willing to get hands on and stuck in! You should be comfortable working outside come wind, rain or shine! As you will be working on the Highways it is essential that you have a good understanding of Health & Safety, and can be confident in that environment.
A minimum of X2 GCSE’s grade C or higher in Maths and English (or equivalent)
A full UK Driving licence would be advantageous
Commitment to studying towards a nationally recognised qualification
Excellent teamwork skills
A willingness to learn and keen to progress
Ability to juggle multiple tasks
