We currently have a great new opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal team in London. Reporting to the Legal Director and working closely with the Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide guidance and advice across the Wates business on any legal issues affecting the Wates Group.
You will focus predominately on non-contentious construction law issues, carry out tender reviews and negotiate building contracts, framework agreements, pre-construction services agreements, parent company guarantees, innovation agreements and forms of collateral warranty.
You will also review, negotiate and draft sub-contracts, consultants’ appointments, performance bonds, retention bonds and letters of intent and provide advice on general contract law and commercial law issues where necessary.
Alongside this you will be required to advise on:
Payment security (in respect of both the employer and the supply chain), including advising on escrow arrangements and payment guarantees, as well as on employer and supply chain insolvency issues.
Other legal issues that may arise in relation to the Wates Group, including reviewing confidentiality agreements and general agreements for the supply of goods and services.
New legal developments of importance by way of monthly newsletters, internal updates and training sessions.
We are looking for you to be a qualified solicitor with some experience gained from working in a similar role and a good understanding of non-contentious construction law.
To be successful in the role you will be a professional and effective communicator along with a commercial, proactive, confident and pragmatic approach.
