Overview of project/role 

A key member of the London Underground Electrical team, leading, managing and taking accountability for driving improvements in performance, reliability, availability, maintainability, safety and cost to ensure the compliance and safety of Electrical assets across LU. 
Responsible for managing internal resources, contract management teams and third party contractors in delivering a world class planned preventative maintenance and reactive fault response, across all LUL Electrical Assets 
Working collaboratively across TfL to deliver a world class customer experience ensuring the performance, safety and cost of the asset base are optimised from a whole life perspective. Innovate through the application of engineering 
principles, smarter working solutions to improve contractual efficiency. 
Showing personal and inspirational functional leadership, advocating modernisation and transformation to create a “can do” culture across the relevant business unit. To reduce bureaucracy whilst delivering value for money to move the business forward with all stakeholders, passionately demonstrating the right behaviours. 

Key Accountabilities 

 

Responsible for leading, managing, and taking accountability for the Electrical Delivery business unit to deliver and drive improvements in performance, reliability, availability, maintainability safety and cost. Achieved by leading the examination of trend date and implementation of a program of continuous improvement utilising visualisation or other organisation cultural/tracking tools.
To lead by example and create the vision and culture to improve safety year on year across the Electrical Delivery business units, upholding the prevention of all injuries or harm to customers, employees and others as a core company value. Responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, operational standards and effective management of safety and risks. Achieved by tracking and analysis of agreed safety KPIs.
Applying engineering and commercial principles to develop and lead a culture of continuous improvement, including
creating and managing a capital expenditure workbank
Develop with the Electrical Manager the business plan for Electrical to achieve a higher level of performance at a lower cost year on year. Analysis of compliance trend data for comparison against agreed KPIs
Accountable for high levels of staff productivity, whilst improving levels of capability and competence.
To drive the joint accountabilities for performance and reliability through collaborative working with the Asset Operations & Network Operations teams, S&ND and TfL Engineering.
To work in conjunction with Major Projects and LU R&E to support the effective scoping and delivery of asset improvements and upgrades.
Leading a team of internal contract managers, managing day-to-day PPM and Faults activity, to ensure contracted KPIs are met and analysed in order to agree contractor commercial applications and provide technical interface as required by contract.
Ensure the strategic and emergency planning and allocation of resources to meet the programs of work by P&E.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience 

Skills

Strong leadership skills to ensure effective team development and address challenges and barriers that impact on people leadership.
Proven ability to communicate with people at all levels, including both external and internal stakeholders, to shape and influence how the organisation is perceived in a positive and consistent manner.
Strong business and financial acumen.
Ability to speedily analyse complex situations and formulate appropriate plans and projects to drive improvement.

Knowledge

A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline (desireable) and/or demonstrable, significant experience of managing within a Electrical environment (essential)
In-depth knowledge of relevant Electrical (and associated Power) assets and systems. (essential)
Experience of leading operational delivery in a complex, real-time railway operations environment. (essential)
Commitment to continuous improvement of the customer experience.
Strong business focus with commitment to driving performance, reliability and financial efficiency.
In-depth knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, guidance and good practice.
Good understanding of Maintenance Contract Management (Electrical)

Experience

Proven experience of asset management in an operational environment. (essential)
Proven experience managing an electrical maintenance contract to the value of £4M+ (essential).
Proven leadership and management experience of managing performance through multi-disciplined teams in an operational, people intensive environment. (essential)
Experience of successful financial/budgetary/costs management. (essential)
Proven track record of leading and implementing change initiatives. (essential)
Experience of working within a complex union environment.(desirable)
