As a Press Officer for Transport for London (TfL), you will be promoting the work of TfL and responding quickly and sensitively to national and international media in one of the busiest press offices in the country, which delivers all public relations in-house. Helping the 8.7 million people who live in London and the hundreds of thousands who visit every day to get to work and enjoy everything our city has to offer, TfL touches the lives of people in a way no other organisation does.
You will play a vital role in our team, helping to ensure that we effectively and efficiently manage media issues, protect TfL’s reputation and promote the Mayor’s Transport Strategy

About the Role:
To proactively promote the work of TfL though print, broadcast and social media for a specific TfL transport brief, responding quickly and sensitively to negative or critical news stories to protect TfL's reputation.
The role holder will be the first point of contact for media, dealing with multiple queries on a daily basis on both proactive and reactive issues affecting TfL’s reputation. This includes drafting media statements, news releases and briefings for approval by senior staff and in collaboration with the Mayor on London's press office.
You will arrange media events and visits as well as organise media interviews and brief senior officials on the likely areas of questioning.
Sourcing of positive news stories relating to your brief is required as is developing them into creative media opportunities. You will also prepare and deliver compelling social media material and content across TfL’s platforms.
You will take part in a rota providing media with out-of-hours service (evenings and weekends).
A good knowledge of the media landscape is essential, as is knowledge of current PR techniques, including best practice of visual and copy-led digital and social media.
You will have an awareness of the relationship between TfL and the Greater London Authority (GLA) and TfL in the wider political context.
You will also be able to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as on your own initiative, with the judgement to escalate issues when needed.
A proactive approach is key, as is proven experience in media relations, and writing for large audiences.
