Day-to-day, your focus will be on motivating and developing your department to deliver safe, cost effective engineering solutions across the organisation. But it doesn’t stop there; you will also apply your own extensive technical expertise across a wide range of complex issues on the transport network, as well as developing technical strategy and acting as the designated technical authority where assigned. 
As the Principal Engineering Leader for Pumps & Drainage, you will be acting as the technical leader for this discipline and report into the Head of Profession for Civil Engineering & Built Environment. Your key accountabilities will include:

Managing and continuing the development of the existing team of Pumps and Drainage technical experts.
Working closely with industry leading internal and external stakeholders that shall include the London Mayor’s office, Network Rail, Thames Water and the ORR.
Forecasting and maintaining a forward-looking resource plan for Pumps and Drainage.
Providing Pumps and Drainage engineering input in support of TfL operations, strategy, projects and asset management, Construction engineering and project engineering input.
Safeguarding the safety, integrity and efficiency of the Pumps and Drainage assets at all stages in the asset life cycle through engagement in planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and assessment activities including work related to the effects of inclement weather and climate change.
Maintaining and updating risk assessments for LU Pumps and Drainage assets or other equivalent asset risk assessments for non-LU pumps and drainage assets on the relevant TfL risk assessment tools / platforms.
You will ideally be a Fellow or a Member working towards Fellowship of the Institution of Civil Engineers or a relevant internationally recognised institution. You will have an expert knowledge of legislation, technical standards and industry best practice related to Pumps and Drainage in the Railways or a similarly complex environment. This position requires you to be able to work in a matrix framework. You need to demonstrate and build on your credibility, competence and technical excellence in the development, approval and implementation of robust engineering solutions through collaborative working, trust and proactive management of your direct team and customers’ expectations.
