As the Principal Engineer for Track Plant, you will be a recognised expert in Plant Engineering, with a comprehensive understanding of TfL and wider industry theory and practise. You will have extensive experience of the application industry standards relating to the approval, safe use and maintenance of track plant, which will include a working knowledge of the legislative requirements. You will have also been directly involved in the development of national/European standards or lead on the development of company standards relating to track plant and have a detailed knowledge of relevant industry codes of practice, Railway Industry Standards and Euronorms; this will include an understanding the ‘system effect’ of standards development and involvement with stakeholder consultation.
You will have led on projects that have included the application of industry risk analysis techniques (either ESM or CSM-RA) with specific experience in their application to railway machinery. You will have expert level knowledge of health and safety legislation, particularly that pertaining to the use of work equipment and machinery, this should be coupled with experience of the track renewal/maintenance environment. You will have lead projects relating to the procurement and/or approval of railborne plant, including involvement at all stages of the project lifecycle. You will provide expert input into the update, development and implementation of standards. Using your expertise in Plant engineering and excellent communication skills, you will provide support and guidance to maintenance and project teams across TfL.
As a minimum, you will also have extensive experience in the following areas:
- Rail vehicle maintenance, modification and assurance
- Application of interoperability regulations
- Application of the supply of machinery safety regulations
- Engineering process design
- Plant related competence management
It would also be advantageous to have knowledge/experience in the following areas:
- Formal health and safety qualifications (eg. NEBOSH or equivalent)
- Reliability, performance and maintenance strategies.
- Technical leadership/ team management
- Project management
