Overview of project
Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) - will transform travel across the city, boosting the economy by billions of pounds and supporting thousands of new jobs and homes. The line, currently being constructed by Crossrail, will be named after the UK's longest serving monarch when it becomes operational. Early next year, station landlord responsibilities will transfer to Rail for London Infrastructure (RfLI) between Stratford and Shenfield, to coincide with the implementation of the new rolling stock. By August 2020, 5 central section stations, the route way, shaft, portals and surface stations will be the responsibility of RfLI.
Overview of role
The Principle On Track Plant Technician - Crossrail is responsible for the safe planning, coordination and safe operation of all plant required for the support of all Maintenance, Renewals and enhancement activities. This will include all rail mounted and wheel mounted vehicles, lifting equipment and hand portable plant.
Initially, the Principle Maintenance Support Technician will assist the Railway Plant Maintenance Engineer to ensuring that the plant required to support the maintenance of the new Crossrail railway is commissioned into service and fit for purpose to enable maintenance activities to be conducted safely and efficiently. Upon introduction of Crossrail into operation, the Principle On-Track Plant Technician will assist the Railway Plant Maintenance Engineer in their responsibilities for the planning and safety critical tactical deployment of all plant required by the delivery teams in the execution of the maintenance requirements. They have the technical decision authority and on call duties.
You will also be accountable for approving Senior On-Track Plant Technicians works, responsible decision making in accordance with relevant Principle On Track Plant Technician, Technical and leadership competence.
Support the delivery and execution of Infrastructure maintenance works, renewals and enhancement works. This includes inspections, self assurance checks and quality checks.
Assist the Delivery and Engineering functions in delivering a 5 year asset investment budget. Lead the plant teams to support the delivery of maintenance tasks as defined by the IME's, complying with defined Crossrail standards, processes, procedures and performance to be delivered.
To ensure that Crossrail Ltd fully address the specification, planning, execution and quality of the maintenance engineering and safety management requirements. This is part of the asset management strategy and plan to deliver the required asset whole life, Reliability Availability Maintainability (RAM) and Remote Condition monitoring
Ensure regulatory requirements are met by applying established policies and procedures to ensure safety operation of all plant owned or hired by RfL(I)
Deliver continuous improvement through a delivery of change initiatives; specifically using Reliability Based Maintenance as part of the "Predict and Prevent" asset stewardship strategy.
Manage directly Senior Technicians and associated technical team. Deliver the RPME's recruitment competence and training strategies.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience (Essential)
Team leader experience with leadership skills to motivate professionals from multiple disciplines.
Excellent communication skills with proven negotiation and influencing skills explicitly with external contractors
Excellent decision-making and analytical skills
Established risk management skills.
Ability to formulate and articulate clear visions for the planning and delivery of initiatives and programmes
HND or equivalent qualification
Member or Associate of a relevant professional institution
Demonstrable understanding of the business structure of and agencies associated with the Rail Industry
Demonstrable application of railway safety-related standards regime and processes
Knowledge of regulations required for the use of Plant and Lifting equipment (LOLER)
Knowledge of Rail Safety standards
Experience in the rail or other infrastructure and asset critical industries
Experience in the management of infrastructure stewardship and maintenance
Experience of successfully managing a teams
Experience of working alongside other engineering functions.
