About Us
London Underground is one of the world’s most famous metro systems and is responsible for more than 3.5 million passenger journeys a day. It has 11 lines covering 402km and serving 270 stations. During peak hours, more than 500 trains are in operation.

London Underground’s (LU) Performance, Analysis and Improvement Team (PA&I) are responsible for driving the business to continuously improve its reliability and performance through analysis and insight that enables LU to prioritise effort, deliver value, and support realisation of our business strategy. The PA&I Analytics team turns data into information, adding value to the business by providing relevant insights into performance improvement. The team undertakes data analysis, builds reports and provides information London Underground's management and the operational side of the business, in order to make performance improvements.

The Role
We are looking to recruit a Reporting Analyst to join the Performance, Analysis and Improvement Team. The Analyst (within the Analytics team) will be responsible for building business intelligence dashboards and reports, carrying out ad-hoc analysis and making recommendations for improved performance.

Accountabilities
• Building and maintaining data models and dashboards in Power BI and other tools, for consumption across London Underground
• Establishing and maintaining a good, professional and pro-active working relationship with the senior management team and operational colleagues
• Providing commentary and insight alongside recommendations for performance improvement
• Using data to undertake ad-hoc problem solving
• Responding to Freedom of Information requests and Mayoral Questions
• Supporting Senior Analysts in creating and validating business performance metrics and scorecard measures
• Providing support and delivering on an agreed programme of improvements to our analytical and reporting process
• Championing an insight driven culture within LU promoting self-serve analytics

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Knowledge
• Educated to degree level, ideally in a numerate discipline, or equivalent level of experience
• Some knowledge of the transport sector
• Good understanding of the Mayor's Transport strategy and LU's business priorities
• Broad knowledge of the current and emerging analytical and technology trends and developments
• Knowledge of appropriate data manipulation, management, analysis, reporting and information systems
• Knowledge of relevant national & international legislation pertaining to the Government/Public Sector – e.g. Data Protection Act, EU Procurement Directives, Freedom of Information Act, including knowledge of basic confidentiality & data protection requirements that apply to the processing of customer information

Skills
• Working knowledge of relational data and/or basic relational data modelling
• Experience building data models, reports and dashboards using a commercial data analytics & visualisation tool (e.g. Power BI is preferred, but other tools, e.g. Tableau, BOXI, etc… are desirable)
• Ability to communicate with senior stakeholders, to understand and challenge their requirements
• Strong numerate and financial understanding, with basic statistical knowledge
• Broad understanding of best practices in metrics design and data analytics
• Strong desire to learn and self-develop, keen interest in problem solving
• Programming experience
• Research skills with specific experience of relevant analytical and statistical techniques
• Strong communication including data visualisation

Experience
• Experience in an analytical role and performance reporting in a complex business environment
• Experience in building complex models and other planning tools
• Experience of providing senior management level reports and insightful commentary
• Experience of operating in a multi-disciplinary environment (finance, engineering, operations, safety etc.) and good ability to synthesize information from each discipline into comprehensive outputs
• Experience in communicating complex information in an easily digestible manner
