Trainee IT Design Operative

Location: Charlton SE London

Pay: London Living Wage (£10.55ph)

Hours: 40hr per week

BeOnsite have a great opportunity for trainee operative to join a busy granite, marble and luxury stone specialist contractor in their factory in Charlton. The ideal applicant will possess excellent IT skills with an ability to adapt and take on new skills showing commitment and desire to learn. Whilst previous experience in the specific trade is not essential, previous exposure to a construction environment would be beneficial. This will suit someone who has an enthusiasm to support and enable others around them and a good team player.

Main Tasks:

· Operating the factory systems

· Training to understand the process to cut and polish materials used by contractor

· Use of CAD/AutoCAD within the IT systems available

· Shadow technicians – specifications & drawing plans

· Use of machinery once fully trained

Skills Required:

· CSCS card

· Advanced IT skills (CAD/AutoCAD, MS Office)

· Desirable but not essential:

o Experience of stonework – cutting & polishing

o Some experience of architectural system of SketchUp & 3D Design


This opportunity is to work in a large factory type setting where the computer systems are programmed to design and cut materials in the same space. The role holder will initially shadow the experienced operatives to learn how to programme the systems, enter specifications and designs that then set the machinery to cut and design materials. The role holder will need strong IT skills to enable them to learn the systems to then operate accurately.

Whilst this is a factory setting it is important that it is treated the same as any construction site where health & safety is paramount. The role holder is expected to take responsibility for their own personal health and safety and the impact on others in the environment.

The role holder can expect to be working in a busy and often noisy environment due to the machinery in use.

Future Prospects:

The job holder will be employed directly by be onsite for the a 6-month probationary period. Following this, depending on performance and suitability there is an opportunity to be transferred to the direct employ of the contractor who are a forward-thinking expanding company who look to promote and develop from within their own workforce. Investment form the contractor to further training to upskill to machine operator is one of the possibilities
