Overview Of Project/role
Network Performance at TfL is responsible for the performance of the road network for all transport modes and is supported by the Operational Modelling and Visualisation team who are now seeking to recruit a Transport Modeller / Developer. The Operational Modelling and Visualisation team delivers high-quality multi-modal transport modelling services. We support the design, build and operation of road enhancement schemes, and carry out a range of data management, analysis, visualisation and reporting activity to effectively support operational decision-making and measure ongoing performance of the road network. We work closely with our traffic modelling software suppliers to maintain modelling capability, develop new modelling techniques and methodologies in response to a dynamic transport environment, and provide internal and external stakeholders with expert guidance and standards.
You will have detailed knowledge of one or more areas of transport modelling and will undertake a range of transport modelling activities to enable TfL to meet its Network Management Duty to efficiently operate London's road network. Your work will include the development of signal schemes primarily focused on modelling, design, audit, network impact assessment and public consultation. You will also support the development and maintenance of software tools, macros and scripts that streamline the modelling process and enhance modelling capabilities.
In support of TfL’s Network Management Duty, and through the use of advanced modelling techniques, provide detailed network impact assessments of schemes for the TfL Traffic Manager’s Network Performance Delivery (NPD) team
Following detailed multi-modal network modelling, support NPD to devise and implement signal timings in order to ensure the efficient operation of the road network in accordance with policy objectives set out in the Mayor’s Transport Strategy
In relation to the assessment and optimisation of transport schemes in London, provide transport modelling advice and support to clients, consultants, sponsors, highway authorities, designers and internal staff
Develop the design of schemes through the use of transport modelling software including Aimsun, Junctions, Legion, LinSig, SATURN, TRANSYT, Vissim and Visum
Evaluate new versions of transport modelling software to assess their suitability for use by NPD, and engage with software suppliers to further develop features and functionality required by NPD
Contribute to transport modelling best practice through development of quality assurance processes, procedures and documentation including TfL's Modelling Guidelines and Model Auditing Process documents
Support the review, design, implementation and optimisation of UTC and local signal control strategies by NPD, including SCOOT/Fixed Time signal timings
