Our volunteering offer is one of the largest in the South West, providing a comprehensive range of volunteering opportunities for over 900 volunteers in 2018-19. Our museums and historic houses are visited by over 1 million people annually.
Volunteering opportunities are developed in partnership with different teams including marketing, events, collections and operations to deliver an outstanding, inclusive and audience-focused volunteering offer. Part of that offer includes supported volunteer placements with built in mentoring and support, which are developed in partnership with colleges, community organisations and as a progression from our own community and young people’s projects. These are offered to people from Black or minority ethnic backgrounds, Disabled people and volunteers from neighbourhoods that have been less likely to visit museums as part of our drive to diversify our volunteering profile.
We are looking for a Volunteer Co-ordinator with excellent organisational skills and a proven track record of working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will support colleagues across the service by, building relationships with partner organisations to develop volunteer opportunities, supporting and mentoring existing project participants into new opportunities, using Better Impact volunteer management software and training staff in its use collating performance data and volunteer statistics, as well as sometimes overseeing a team of volunteers eg to use handling objects to engage with the public.
An effective communicator with excellent written and spoken English language skills, you will have considerable experience of working within a public-facing role delivering excellent customer service.
You will be based at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery but you will be expected to work at any of Bristol Culture’s sites across the city. Although your agreed working hours will be between Monday and Friday, you may be required to work the occasional evening or at a weekend.
